Last year was our 50th year in business. The Company was incorporated in May 1964; the year the Beatles film a Hard Day’s Night was released, the Queen gave birth to her fourth child Edward, the film Zulu was released, and the average weekly wage was £16. Liverpool won the football league and Top of the Pops was first aired on BBC.
The directors at this time were brothers John and Tony Hennity, both electrical engineers. Tony was the father of Nick Hennity the current Chairman.
The sixties were boom times, many industrial plants where being built during this period in the North West.
Timeline
1964 to 1974
The business started carrying out electrical installations and small civil engineering projects. During the first decade the business built petrol stations for Shell all over the UK. Lyjon were involved in the development of Shell Star where we had over 300 men working on site. Shell Star is now C F Fertilisers (UK) Ltd and Lyjon are still working at this plant as one of the main maintenance contractors, supplying Electrical/Instrumentation, Civil Engineering Services. This successful relationship which has been built over many years, reflects the true meaning of partnering, and
is what differentiates Lyjon from others.
1974 to 1984
During this decade Lyjon began working for many local authorities including Wirral, Cheshire West, Chester, Knowsley, Liverpool.
1984 to 1994
The Company went into speculative housing development during this time and began working in social housing for Knowsely Housing Trust, again a client Lyjon is still working with.
Lyjon purchased Ellesmere Port Insulation (UK) Ltd and began to develop relationships with many blue chip companies, working on insulation, cladding and general engineering projects. Ellesmere Port Insulation is marketed under the Lyjon brand this division works for mostly industrial clients including paper mills, chemical companies and other industrial plants within the UK. This division is thriving at the moment as again it delivers a quality product at competitive rates.
1994 to 2004
Lyjon Group consolidated and continued to work for all the above sectors. The business continued to execute reliability, quality and safety it is known for and strengthened it’s working relationships.
2004 to 2014
Lyjon Group has become involved in framework contracts, as this is the way forward for many clients. Lyjon Group has been successful in winning many frameworks including United Utilities, Cheshire West, and frameworks for various housing trusts.
2015
Last year saw the group achieve its highest turnover, acquiring new clients in what is still a very competitive market.

Lyjon Group is still a family business. The company Directors are very involved and hands on. They go the extra mile to ensure the customer receives the best services. They spend time with clients, planning and understanding their requirements and goals by listening. The team then makes sure the work is executed on time, to budget, and to the performance specification, safely and to the quality that our clients come to expect.
